Epididymal Cysts

Advice: Epididymal cysts (spermatocoeles) are common, and usually do not require treatment, unless they are large and cause inconvenience or discomfort.

Refer To: Urologist.

Ensure that the palpable mass is separate from the testis. If not, urgent referral is required, as for a testicular mass.

Epididymal Cysts

Pain associated with an epididymal cyst is common during the early stages of development, but normally settles.

Treatment is by surgical removal, but most urologists will tend to avoid this in younger men who have not completed their families, as reduced fertility is a rare side effect. Even in older men who do not want further children, the operation itself can occasionally produce more long-term discomfort than the cyst itself.
