Examination Under Anaesthetic

This is a simple procedure that is performed under general anaesthetic. It is usually done as an additional investigation with another urological procedure.

For men, this involves examination of the prostate and rectum by inserting a finger in the rectum and pressing down on the abdomen with a hand, to feel the pelvic organs.

For women, the pelvic organs are felt in a similar manner, but with insertion of a finger into the vagina.

This type of examination helps in the diagnosis of problems of the lower urinary tract and pelvis.
