Hydrocoele
Advice: Refer if symptomatic or troubled.

Asymptomatic simple hydrocoeles do not require treatment. If they are large to the point of causing discomfort or inconvenience, they should be treated.
If they are sudden in onset, and there is doubt about the diagnosis, an ultrasound should be performed to rule out an underlying testicular neoplasm. This is particularly true in younger men.
If hydrocoele treatment is required, aspiration is discouraged, as recurrence is invariable, and there is an associated risk of infection.
Please refer urgently if USS demonstrates a testicular neoplasm.
